How do you Choose a Caribbean Island?
When you’re ready for a Caribbean vacation, how do you choose which island to visit?
This article on Lonely Planet talks about How to choose a Caribbean island, mentioning that how easy it is to get to as one of the main factors in choosing. In other words, it’s a lot easier to take one plane to get to your destination instead of having a stop somewhere during your trip.
To me that doesn’t matter as much. I know when I’m trying to decide on a Caribbean vacation, I think of a few things. First, I like to make sure that if I’m looking for an active vacation, that the island has a bunch of things to do, fun places to visit etc. That way I know I’ll be kept busy. A few examples of islands that would fit the bill (to me) are Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Aruba, and Curacao.
If on the other hand I’m looking for a relaxing vacation, what’s on the island doesn’t matter as much. It’s more important that the resort is good, and it’s a nice inexpensive vacation. To me, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica fit the bill. They are usually very inexpensive, include absolutely everything (airfare, hotel, all your food), and you’re left with a relaxing vacation sitting on the beach.
What do you look for when choosing a Caribbean island to vacation on?
