10 Things to Think about About a Week Before You Go away (Last Minute Reminders…Don’t Forget!)
If you’re about a week out from your vacation, you’re probably getting pretty excited.
You have everything booked, and know what you’ll be doing each day. I just wanted to list some of the things that you might have forgotten, and don’t want you to have to stay up late the night before getting it all done.
How do I know these are the things that might completely slip your mind, but that you should be thinking about? Because last year while I was getting ready for vacation, some of these things were on my mind just a few days before I left, and I probably should have taken care of them earlier! It would have made for less stress.
So here are some things to make sure you think about BEFORE it gets to be the last minute…
Here are some things to make sure you don’t forget to do about a week before your trip:
- How are you getting to your destination? If you’re flying, do you have a way to the airport? If you’re driving, make sure you have a full tank of gas.
- Do you get a daily newspaper? If so, make sure you call them and put it on hold, or that you have someone coming to your home each day to bring it in. When newspapers are left outside, it’s a sign that no one is home!
- Did you remember to either stop your mail during the trip, or do you have someone coming to get it each day?
- If you have pets, are they taken care of? Are you dropping them off somewhere or will someone be coming over to take care of them? If so, do you have enough food for them?
- Maps/Directions – Do you know how to get from place to place where you’re going? I’m sure that by now you know how to get to your destination, but what about all of the places you’ll be going once AT your destination? It’s a lot easier to print out directions while you’re home and relaxed instead of while you’re there trying to figure out how to get somewhere.
- Printouts of all of your plans – Do you have your flight info printed? What about any day tours that you’ve booked? Addresses and phone numbers of where your staying and visiting can really be helpful as well.
- Have you checked the weather at your destination so you know what to make sure is clean so you can pack before the trip? Even if it’s usually warm/cold during that time of year, you never know until a few days before what the actual weather will be like.
- Itinerary – This is the perfect time to go over what you’re doing while you’re away, and see if you want to look into anything else before you go. Research is always simpler when you’re home and haven’t gotten to your travel destination yet.
- While grocery shopping, make sure you have any food and toiletries you want to bring with you as you won’t want to have to go out the day before you leave just to get them, and won’t want to forget them and end up having to buy them at your destination where it will cost a lot more.
- Make sure you know how you’re going to keep in touch. If you’re going to text or call, will it cost extra? If so, how much? If you’re going to email, do you either have a device with you or will you have internet access where you’re going?
Enjoy,
