Getting Ready for Vacation – When You have One Week to Go

Today we have just over a week until our trip. What does that mean to me? Well, it means that there are a certain number of things I’ll have to start doing to make sure that I am ready to go away, and to make sure I don’t forget anything. Since everyone has their own schedule and list of things to do, I thought I’d share what I’ll be doing between now and next week to make sure that I am fully ready for my trip.

First I’ll double check all of our booked plans. Make sure I have printed out airline, hotel, and car rental confirmations. This way if there are any questions, I have written proof of what I have ordered and what I expect.

You can laugh if you want, but since we’ll be flying, I’ll also go to the airline’s web site so that I can see what movies will be showing on our flight. Why you ask? For a few reasons. One because it’s fun to know what we get to see…and also because then if there is nothing good, we’ll be sure to pack a few extra things to keep us busy on the long plane ride!

Next since we’ll be doing a lot of driving and I don’t know the area, I will start printing out directions to get us to all of the places we want to go. This will take a while since we are going many places, and I really know NOTHING about the area. It won’t be hard though. I like using Google Maps, and will enter in all my information there to get directions.

I will also spend some time trying to figure out a few places to eat, and maybe some coupons that I can print out and bring with us for places we might (or might not) go to. I love the chance to save some money, so I always try to be prepared. I also like to try new things, so will look to see for a few good recommendations.

I will get all of the tickets together, since for this trip I have already received many of the admission tickets we’ll be using!

Around Tuesday/Wednesday, I’ll make a list of everything I want to bring. All of our electronics, clothes, etc. so that Thursday night we can pack. I’ll also make a list of all of the things we need to do before we go, like turn the heat down, unplug certain electronics, etc. We’ll also have to put our mail on hold. Making sure all of our electronics are fully charged is something else that will be helpful.

I’ll also spend some time going over our itinerary, and try to figure out times for certain things (like we want to make sure we see fireworks at Disneyland, etc…) and that way the trip will be a little bit easier.

Basically, in the 5-7 days before your trip, you need to go over all your travel plans, make sure you have absolutely everything you will need, make a list to pack, and a list of what needs to be done around the house before you leave. If you do all of that, when you lock your door with your suitcase in hand, you won’t have to be nervous that you forgot anything. You’ll know everything has been taken care of, and your vacation can begin!
