Today’s Destination: Glen Canyon, Utah

Fun with nature can be found in another of Frommer’s Top Destinations of 2007. Glen Canyon, Utah is a great family vacation spot.

Lake Powell in southern Utah is a beautiful area in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It was created when the Colorado river was dammed in 1963. Water activities and hiking are the activities of choice, including houseboating and fishing.

One of the most spectacular sights on Lake Powell is the Rainbow Bridge. The Rainbow Bridge is the largest natural bridge in the world at 290 feet tall and 270 feet across. It was extremely inaccessable by land, but the lake created in 1963 allowed for easy access by boat to this incredible natural wonder.

On land, you can find many ancient Indian ruins. Anasazi rock art, small homes and buildings are still located in the canyons. A nice hike around the canyon can give you a great view of native history.
