Today’s Destination: Panama

The next of Frommer’s top destinations of 2007 is Panama.

Costa Rica has become a very popular vacation destination for international travelers. However, not many know that Panama has much of the same appeal as its neighbor.

Panama City has a rainforest within its city limits and the country has adventure among the jungles and volcanoes as well as beautiful beaches and snorkeling to have an incredible vacation. A hike to the summit of Volcan Baru on a clear day can give you a spectacular view of both oceans from the same point.

Panama also boasts the second largest coral reef in the eastern Pacific. Isla Coiba is a world heritage site with excellent snorkelling to see fish, dolphins, turtles and other marine life.

The largest attraction is of course the Panama Canal. You can do day trips through the sets of double locks and enjoy the wonderous manmade canal as you travel from one ocean to the other.

It is not a heavily promoted vacation destination here in the United States, but Panama is a beautiful place to visit.
